While there are many routes to reach Machu Picchu, but only the Inka trail that has been extensively labored upon by the Inkas, with stone paths and steps, and dotted with many ruins.

 

THE SINGLE DAY (SHORT) INKA TRAIL

A van will take you from Cusco to Ollamtaytambo train station, and from there a train will take you to Km 82, where the Inka Trail begins. You'll get to cross ruins and Inka-made paths before your reach the Machu Picchu citadel, descend to Aguas Calientes to spend the night, and then get a full tour to the citadel in the next day. Without porter or hotel $320. All included $560.

THE FOUR DAY INKA TRAIL

A bus will take you from Cusco to Ollamtaytambo train station, and from there a train will take you in Chachabamba (Km 104), where the short Inka Trail begins. You'll get to cross numerous ruins and inca-made paths and overnight in tents before your reach the Machu Picchu citadel, descend to Aguas Calientes to spend the night, and get a full tour to the citadel in the next day. If you choose the without porter option, you'll have to bring your own camping gear and meals. Without porter or hotel $400. All included $900.
